Hello, my name is Ana Gortazar. I’m a super senior and this is my
8th summer here at camp. In 2011 I came to camp all the way
from Spain, not knowing anyone or what to expect. At first, I was extremely reluctant to come here as I was so young, so far away from home, my English was limited, and I was afraid I wouldn’t fit in. However, almost immediately after arriving at camp and meeting the people who are now my best friends, I realized there was no reason for me to worry. I felt welcomed and instantly made friends. Camp
is a place where you can be yourself. Being here has allowed me
to become more independent and has shaped who I am today. I’ve learned to challenge myself and to not be afraid to try new things. Although my time is over now, I will always feel a part of the Laurel family. It hurts me to leave this place but leaving the people hurts me even more. It’s difficult enough not seeing them during the year and its heartbreaking knowing I might not see them for even longer. All
I can do now is thank Camp Laurel for the friendships I’ve made and for the memories I know will last forever.
